Interpretation grid according to the GRADE methodological framework
Strength of recommendations | |
---|---|
Strong | High confidence in the relationship between the expected benefits and risks of the intervention, i.e. that the benefits of an intervention outweigh the risks or that the risks outweigh the expected benefits. |
Conditional (weak) | The expected benefits of an intervention probably outweigh the risks (in favor) or the risks probably outweigh the expected benefits (against). |
Quality of the evidence body | |
Big | Confidence that the actual effect is close to the estimated effect. |
Average | Moderate confidence in the estimated effect: The actual effect is probably close to the estimated effect, but it is possible that it differs significantly. |
Weak | Limited confidence in estimated effect: The actual effect may be significantly different from the estimated effect. |
Very weak | Very little confidence in the estimated effect: The actual effect is likely very different from the estimated effect. |

Consequences for patients | Most people in this situation would want the recommended course of action to be followed; few people wouldn't want it. | Most people in this situation would want one to follow the suggested course of action, but many would not. |
